Especially as the system settings describe the graphics card as "Graphics Card 02.0 VGA compatible controller" and on the next line "Graphics Card 0.00 VGA compatible controller" I mentioned the graphics card specifically because several of the fixes seemed to be directed at, or to interact with the graphics card in some way so it may be applicable.

Adding "nomodeset" to boot instructions fixes that, but it has to be done on each boot, and neither of the NVidia drivers fix the problem reported at startup or provides brightness controls. I am using the xserver-xorg-video-noveau (version 1:1.0.16-1) driver, rather than nvidia-driver-470 or nvidia-driver-460 (the only other options) because the system frequently boots to a black screen when I use one of them. The computer is a SAGER NP7879JQ (CLEVO NH77HJQ) laptop with a Nvidia graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU 4GB GDDR6 was what the graphics specs said), and I am getting a notice telling me that there is an problem with the graphics driver every time I boot.

Windows 10 has no difficulty adjusting the brightness. This is a dual boot system, Windows 10 and Linux Mint 20.2 with Cinnamon. The screen is too bright and my eyes hurt if I use Linux for long. I am not a Linux expert, so I may be making a mistake with this, but I would really like this fixed. I have tried various fixes online and had no luck- either they are for the wrong hardware, or the wrong drivers, or the suggested software is having no effect whatsoever. There is no affect when I try any of the programs that are supposed to control it, such as redshift, or light, or xbacklight.
There is no affect when I use the function keys that should control it. There is no brightness control in the tray. I can't adjust the screen brightness on my recent installation of Linux Mint Uma.
